What is MSculpt and how does HIFEM body contouring actually work?
MSculpt is the HIFEM body contouring treatment offered at Aliestetic in Miami. HIFEM stands for high intensity focused electromagnetic energy. An applicator placed on the abdomen, glutes, arms or thighs generates a focused magnetic field that depolarizes motor neurons and forces the muscle underneath into supramaximal contractions, meaning contractions stronger and more frequent than the same muscle can produce on its own in a gym. A single session typically lasts about thirty minutes. Nothing is cut, injected or frozen, and the person stays fully clothed except for the treated area. HIFEM is a motor stimulus, not a fat removal procedure and not a substitute for weight loss. It works best on people who are already reasonably close to their target weight and want better muscle definition or a firmer, lifted look in the glutes. Results build gradually over the weeks after the last session as the muscle adapts.
Benefits of Real and Lasting Results
Double Action
Increases muscle mass and strength, and reduces localized fat.
Definition
Visibly improves body definition.
Comfort
Requires no exercise or recovery time.
Technology
The contractions it generates cannot be achieved through conventional exercise.

How Does It Work?
- HIFEM energy generates intense muscle contractions.
- It stimulates muscle growth and lipolysis (fat burning).
- It is a comfortable, fast, and painless treatment.
Duration per session
30 minutes per area.
Visible results from the 2nd week. A protocol of 4 sessions is recommended.
Real transformations
“I never thought a treatment would define my abs. MSculpt really works.” (Samuel T., 32 years old).
Results are individual: one patient’s experience does not represent what any given person should expect.

Most people who ask about MSculpt arrive with the same sentence: I train, I eat reasonably well, and my abdomen still does not look the way I want it to. Or the glutes version: no implants, no fat transfer, but more shape. That is the right starting point, because HIFEM is a muscle technology, and that one fact prevents most of the disappointment people report with it.
MSculpt is one of the treatments we perform ourselves, in house, in Miami and Naples.
What is HIFEM and what does it do to muscle?

HIFEM means high intensity focused electromagnetic energy. The applicator generates a rapidly changing magnetic field that passes through skin and fat without heating them and induces an electrical current in the motor neurons underneath, which fire the muscle.
The key word in the literature is supramaximal. A voluntary contraction, even a hard one in the gym, never recruits every motor unit at once; your nervous system holds some back. An external electromagnetic stimulus does not negotiate. It contracts the muscle thousands of times per session at a completeness you cannot reproduce voluntarily, with no joint loading and no fatigue-driven form breakdown.
The muscle then responds the way it responds to any overload: it remodels. Studies using MRI and ultrasound in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology have measured increases in abdominal muscle thickness and, in devices that add radiofrequency, reductions in the subcutaneous fat layer.
What is the difference between Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO?
The two names get used interchangeably in advertising and they are not the same machine.
The two names get used interchangeably in advertising and they are not the same machine.
Emsculpt
The original BTL device, HIFEM energy only. Its clearances center on improved abdominal tone, stronger abdominal muscles, a firmer abdomen, and strengthening, toning and firming of buttocks, thighs, arms and calves. Fat change, where reported, is secondary.
Emsculpt NEO
The later device, delivering HIFEM and radiofrequency at once from the same applicator. The radiofrequency heats the subcutaneous fat while the electromagnetic field works the muscle, which is why NEO carries a clearance for non invasive lipolysis of the abdomen and is described by the manufacturer for patients with a body mass index up to 35.
Where MSculpt sits
MSculpt is our name for our HIFEM device, which belongs to this family. We do not advertise it as the original Emsculpt or as the NEO, because those are product names owned by a specific manufacturer. Ask at consultation and you get the manufacturer and the model, not a slogan.
One thing that follows from that, and it matters more than the branding: the clearances described just above belong to BTL’s devices, and so does the published MRI evidence. Until we name our unit for you, treat them as context for the technology, not as a claim about the machine you will be lying under. Ask at consultation whether the specific device holds FDA 510(k) clearance and for which indication. Any clinic that cannot answer that about its own equipment is telling you something.
The distinction matters: if you are lean and want tone and shape, a muscle-only device addresses it. If your issue is a soft layer over the muscle, HIFEM alone will not remove it.

No sharp pain, but it is intense. The first thirty seconds feel bizarre because your abdomen contracts without you deciding to contract it. The intensity then climbs in steps, and between the strong contractions the device delivers a lighter tapping phase that reduces lactic acid buildup and next-day soreness. Ask for the intensity to drop whenever you want; pushing to the ceiling on session one is not a badge of anything.

Manufacturer protocols describe a short block of sessions scheduled close together, then spaced maintenance to hold the adaptation. Muscle remodeling continues after the last session, so meaningful reassessment happens weeks to a couple of months later. We photograph under standardized conditions, same lighting, same distance, same posture, because that is the only version of a before and after that means anything.

For HIFEM the answer is unusually clean. Lasers and intense pulsed light deposit energy into a chromophore, and in darker skin the melanin in the epidermis competes for it, which is the source of burns and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. HIFEM has no chromophore: it is a magnetic field acting on motor neurons, and melanin plays no role in how the energy is absorbed.
Safety on skin tone is not safety for everyone. The real exclusions here are internal, not cutaneous: implanted electronic or metal devices near the area, pregnancy, active malignancy, epilepsy and bleeding disorders without clearance. Declare implants honestly at intake.
Quick answer
Can HIFEM burn or darken brown skin? This is one of the few body treatments where skin tone genuinely is not a variable. HIFEM energy is electromagnetic, not light based, so it does not target melanin as a chromophore. There is no burn or hyperpigmentation mechanism the way there is with lasers. Clinical work on HIFEM devices has included participants across Fitzpatrick phototypes I through VI. If you have been turned away from other body devices because of your skin tone, this is one you can ask about.
Toning the abdomen without exercise, and lifting the glutes without surgery
Abdomen
HIFEM improves muscle tone and the definition of the abdominal wall without a single crunch. What it cannot do is remove a layer of fat sitting over that muscle, and it cannot repair a diastasis, the separation of the rectus muscles many women have after pregnancy. That is structural, a surgeon repairs it, and contracting the muscle harder will not close the gap.
Glutes
HIFEM works the gluteal muscles and improves firmness and shape without incisions, anesthesia or fat grafting. It does not add volume the way a fat transfer does. If your goal is a large increase in projection, that is a different category of procedure, and the honest comparison is worth having before you spend money.

It is a muscle tool, so it pairs with treatments for the other layers. Loose skin after weight loss is a skin problem, and radiofrequency microneedling addresses it. Cellulite dimpling is a septa problem, and contracting muscle will not release a septum. Post-surgical swelling is lymphatic, with its own protocol. A good plan names the layer before it names the machine.

Frequently asked questions
Is MSculpt the original Emsculpt or Emsculpt NEO?
MSculpt is the name used at Aliestetic for our HIFEM body contouring device, which belongs to the same technology family as Emsculpt. We do not claim it is either the original Emsculpt or the Emsculpt NEO model, because those are specific BTL product names and claiming a device you do not have is exactly the kind of thing this industry does too often. Ask us directly at your consultation and we will tell you the device, the manufacturer and the settings we plan to use on you.
Does MSculpt hurt?
It does not hurt in the way a needle or a laser hurts, but it is not a relaxing spa treatment either. The sensation is an intense, involuntary muscle contraction with a tapping or pulsing feeling between contractions. Most people describe it as strange for the first five minutes and then tolerable. Intensity is dialed up gradually, and you can ask for it to be lowered at any point. Muscle soreness the next day, similar to a hard workout, is common.
How many sessions do I need?
There is no universal number and anyone who quotes you one before assessing you is guessing. HIFEM protocols described by manufacturers commonly involve a short series of sessions scheduled close together over a couple of weeks, followed by spaced maintenance. Your actual plan depends on the area, your starting muscle tone, your goal and how you respond. We set it at consultation and adjust it as we go.
Does MSculpt really work, or is it just marketing?
The underlying HIFEM technology has peer-reviewed studies behind it, including work published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology using MRI and ultrasound to measure changes in muscle thickness and abdominal fat. That is real evidence. What is also true is that the published effect sizes are modest, they are measured in people who were already near a healthy weight, and no study supports it as a treatment for obesity. It works within a defined lane.
Is it safe for brown and dark skin?
This is one of the few body treatments where skin tone genuinely is not a variable. HIFEM energy is electromagnetic, not light based, so it does not target melanin as a chromophore. There is no burn or hyperpigmentation mechanism the way there is with lasers. Clinical work on HIFEM devices has included participants across Fitzpatrick phototypes I through VI. If you have been turned away from other body devices because of your skin tone, this is one you can ask about.
When will I see before and after changes?
Not immediately. Muscle adaptation is a biological process that continues after the sessions end, and most protocols describe assessment several weeks to a few months after the final treatment. We take standardized before and after photos, same lighting, same distance, same posture, because memory is unreliable and phone selfies taken at different angles prove nothing.
Can I do MSculpt after liposuction or a tummy tuck?
Only when your operating surgeon clears you, and not before. Forced supramaximal contractions across a healing abdominal wall are not something to improvise, especially after muscle plication in an abdominoplasty. Bring your surgeon's clearance and we will schedule around it.
Who should not have MSculpt?
HIFEM is not performed on people with metal or electronic implants in or near the treatment area, including cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, neurostimulators, drug pumps, metal IUDs or metal implants. It is avoided in pregnancy, over active malignancy, and in people with epilepsy or bleeding disorders without medical clearance. Declare implants and devices honestly at intake.
Is there a MSculpt provider near me in Naples?
Aliestetic serves both Miami and Naples, Florida. If you are searching for HIFEM or Emsculpt-type body contouring near me on the southwest coast, contact us to confirm which location and which schedule fits you.
What is the difference between Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO, and where does MSculpt fit?
Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO are BTL platforms built on HIFEM high-intensity focused electromagnetic muscle stimulation. The main difference is that the NEO version adds radiofrequency to the muscle stimulation. During your consultation at Aliestetic you will be told which equipment is used in your protocol and why it was chosen for your case.
Still not sure you are a candidate?
That is what the first consultation is for. It is free, there is no obligation, and you can come to Miami or start by video if you are travelling in.
